Making dense, it’s for the environment!
I was pleased to see the Green Building Council of Australia quoted in the Canberra Times, saying that to be more sustainable we must start building on what we already have, instead of clearing out our surrounding bushlands.
One of the most poignant remarks came from chief executive Romilly Madew, who states that we already have as much land as London does, and that place holds almost 7 million people! This proves that instead of locating ourselves further away from inner-Canberra, we should begin to increase our population’s density, moving closer to markets and business districts.
By combining measurable standards of sustainability with densification, we can ensure that we won’t destroy our city’s bush capital image. We may also become the leaders in Australia for sustainable living, a title worth working towards.
loop is committed to moving towards sustainable goals. We already generate our own power from renewable sources, and we recycle all of our materials. Nothing is wasted. We are engaging the Belconnen community to lead a more active and sustainable lifestyle, while empowering them with close-by services.
